Lisa Frankenstein is the right movie in the wrong era

Lisa Frankenstein (2024)

Lisa Frankenstein is a tale of a teenage girl down on her luck in a new town unable to fit in until a corpse is reanimated by lightning and turns her life around.  The concept is simple, but the execution is delightful.  Unfortunately, that execution is targeted almost exclusively at my generation.  I have a sinking feeling that nobody is going to watch this treat of a film because it was made for people in their 30s but marketed to people in their teens.  Even the title is a reference that is only understood by children of the 90s.  If this exact same movie came out in 2000, it would currently be a cult classic.  But instead, it will barely make any money and be buried in the Tubi library for the foreseeable future.  Kathryn Newton shines in the lead as she and zombie Cole Sprouse wreak havoc as murder and electricity make Sprouse hotter.  Seriously, that’s the premise.  And it is so silly that it works.  It relies heavily on comedy and a cast of two-dimensional characters who don’t really learn anything and the only changes are from living to dead or dead to less dead.  It truly is a simple movie.  It knows what it wants to do and it does it well.  The movie itself flies by, clocking in at just over an hour and a half, which would make it the perfect movie for TV, slotting into a 2-hour block.  Unfortunately, FX no longer “has the movies”.  I truly hope that Lisa Frankenstein gains a new life in streaming because I truly enjoyed it.  Overall, it is a fun portal back to a simpler time and I give Lisa Frankenstein 24000 out of 30000 amps in a bolt of lightning.
