Charlie's Angels: 2 Full 2 Throttle

Charlie's Angels (2019)

Charlie’s Angels is a pseudo-sequel to the original TV series and the early 2000s movies. It follows the story of a new team of Angels as they try to stop a potentially weaponized technology by protecting a corporate whistleblower. This iteration of the Angels packs substantially more firepower than any previous generation and the movie flaunts its improved action scenes. The fights are well choreographed and look great. It shows the training that the actresses put into the movie, and their work paid off. Often when I see a movie with a female action lead, there is at least one fight in which the 120-pound star tosses around a 250-pound bruiser, but the Angels used their technique, technology, and teamwork to overcome physical obstacles. It was refreshing to see more realistic fights, even though they are clearly fake and scripted. The movie has a decent sense of humor, as well, but the jokes sometimes undercut the scene. Kristen Stewart’s character in particular tries to make light of every situation. Most of the time, it actually works, but there were a few instances where I caught myself rolling my eyes. The only major problem was the generic story. I predicted the twist within the first ten minutes of the movie, but I was still able to enjoy the movie. Overall, Charlie’s Angels is honest rebirth that captures the spirit of the original with a very basic story and decent characters. I give Charlie’s Angels 2 out of 3 Angels.
