The Addams Family (2019)

This movie was not good. When I was a wee lad, I used to watch reruns of the Addams Family with my parents and the movies later on VHS and enjoyed them thoroughly. I even recently saw the 1991 movie and enjoyed the nostalgia. This new version of the Addams Family is like a paper cut out of the original Addams Family. Sure the colors were pretty and nice, but the movie was so simple that it was almost insulting. I understand that the old TV show used to have easy jokes, but that was from the 1960s, before humor existed. This update did not make me laugh at all. Even the children in the theater weren’t laughing, only talking because they were bored. The Addams Family had so much promise, with an extremely talented voice cast and a broad base of source material, but it floundered its way through bland plot about a home décor specialist trying to update their haunted house. The Addams Family’s biggest crime was the underuse of cousin It, the best and most interesting character in the family. Cousin It was voiced by Snoop Dogg and was only on screen for a few moments. Fortunately, it was a short movie. That is the best I can do. I’m sorry. It just wasn’t good. I give The Addams Family 100 of the 1600 lumens that Uncle Fester’s light bulb emits.
