Gemini Man Had Me Seeing Double

Gemini Man (2019)

Gemini Man would have been the coolest movie in 2004, but it is just a mediocre movie in 2019. Using motion capture technology to de-age someone in order to have a person fight themselves is a supremely cool idea, but not for a 100 minute movie. This would have been an awesome YouTube video or TV episode because it only needed to be 45 minutes long. The plot was simpler than first grade addition and there was no subtext. Every character was flatter than Kyrie Irving thinks the Earth is. And every problem was just solved by Will Smith’s character being good at violence. Even with all of that, I enjoyed Gemini Man. It was so basic and inoffensive that it is hard not to enjoy. Will Smith and the rest of the cast had fun with their simple roles and made it easily accessible to any fan. Gemini Man will have a long life playing on TNT or FX on weekend mornings for years to come, largely because the smaller size of the TV will hide some of the subpar CGI. Overall, I enjoyed Gemini Man, even though it wasn’t very good. I give Gemini Man 12 out of 20 cloned Will Smiths.
