Good Boys (2019)

Good Boys made me laugh more than any other movie this year. I don’t know if it is because I can relate to a lot of the feelings the boys had because I had them when I was in middle school or if I relate to how they think they know everything while knowing nothing, like most of my students. Either way, every scene made me at least chuckle. This movie had me smiling from the start of the main character’s dad realizing his son wouldn’t hug him because he had a boner to the end when the trio of boys is playing on a sex swing. All of the children in the movie were great, with the supporting characters playing to type and the main three boys doing yeoman’s work and carrying the movie. It was some of the best child acting I have ever seen, and they were believable at every point in the movie. The “Bean Bag Boys”, played by Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams, and Brady Noon, were delightful and truly felt like a circle of friends. While their antics were over the top, they were not too far beyond that of 12-year-old boys to be inaccessible. Good Boys is like a more innocent Superbad, with some laugh out loud moments and more heart. I can’t say much more without giving away any more, so I will just say that Good Boys was the best comedy so far in 2019. I give Good Boys 3 out of 3 best friends.
