Men In Black: International Is a Movie

Men in Black: International (2019)

I thought Men in Black 3 was an unnecessary sequel, so the studio really doubled down with this one. Men in Black: International is a movie that now exists and I certainly watched it. Beyond that, there isn’t much to it. It is not a bad movie, but it is also not a good movie. It is a simple story of a new person getting paired with an edgy but cool veteran to try and crack a case with everything hanging in the balance, but what Men in Black: International does differently is absolutely nothing. If you have seen any movie with a twist, you will see the twist in this movie within the first 20 minutes. While it has the most basic of plots, the saving grace of this movie is the introduction of new characters. The charisma and chemistry of the three leads kept me entertained and not bored with their constant banter. Thompson and Hemsworth are as fun as they are beautiful and Kumail Nanjiani did a great job of breaking any sexual tension they had with wit and timing. Beyond the leads, nothing else of substance was added to the MIB mythos. It was missing the menacing villain that the other three movies had. Instead of having an interesting antagonist, they opted for a giant amorphous space monster, which always works, like in Green Lantern and Fantastic Four and Dark Phoenix. I did not dislike this movie, but I can guarantee that I will never sit down and watch it again all the way through. Overall, Men in Black: International is a harmless movie that didn’t even try to be special. I give Men in Black: International 46.7% of the 99.96% absorption rate of Vantablack, the darkest known shade of black on Earth.
