Godzilla: King of the Monsters Reigns Supreme

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Did Godzilla (2014) not have enough monster fighting? Did Godzilla (2014) focus too much on the human element of disasters? Was Godzilla (2014) too dark so you couldn’t see any of the monsters clearly? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then Godzilla: King of the Monsters is for you. It throws out the idea that the humans matter. Besides Kyle Chandler, who somehow knows everything about everything, every other character is interchangeable. I enjoyed Godzilla a lot in 2014, but I enjoyed Godzilla: King of the Monsters much more. It was pure fun. I love the cheesiness of the old Godzilla movies when it was just two men in rubber suits pushing each other in a miniature city, but as CGI improved, I hoped and prayed for an awesome monster battle movie. I thought it would happen in 1998 with Godzilla and was let down. I thought it would happen 2007 with Dragon Wars: D-War, but that was awful. Finally Pacific Rim happened, and it satiated my desire for monster fights, but it wasn’t any of the monsters I grew up loving. Now, I have a beautiful movie with Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah battling it out for supremacy, and it is truly glorious. It is what I wanted and checked every box. I can understand how some people wouldn’t like this movie, but those aren’t the people this was made to entertain. This movie was created for long time fans of the Godzilla franchise to see the best movie monster ever fight it out in glorious CGI fights with millions of dollars behind it. Overall, nothing about this movie matters except for how awesome the battles are, and the battles are amazing. So I give Godzilla: King of the Monsters 35 out of the 35 Godzilla movies that have been made so far.
