Teen Titans GO! to the Movies (2018)

Teen Titans GO! to the Movies was a delightful continuation for any fans of the show, but is absolute drivel for anybody who dislikes the Cartoon Network series. Fortunately, the series has grown on me and I enjoy the stupid meta-humor, so I liked the movie. Just like the show, it is manic and fast, with jokes that are aimed at children and darker, subtle jokes aimed at adults. One of my favorite parts was trying to recognize famous voices behind the members of the Justice League. By far the best was Nicolas Cage as Superman, because he was almost cast as Superman by Tim Burton in the 90s. There was even a Stan Lee cameo and a surprising amount of Marvel references. The movie did have several catchy songs, just like on the show, including one with Michael Bolton. The type of humor and rapid-fire Easter eggs reminded me of The Lego Batman Movie, but Teen Titans GO! To the Movies didn’t have the storyline or depth. Teen Titans GO! To the Movies was largely simple with an easy to follow plot, inconsistent animation quality, and enough jokes to keep viewers smiling. Since I am a fan of the show and am already familiar with the characters’ quirks and tone, I enjoyed the movie and give it 3 out of 5 Titans. Honestly, if you don’t like the show, stay away from the theater. This movie will not change your mind. But it you are a fan of the original Teen Titans (2003) and not Teen Titans GO!, you should look into the mid-credits scene.
