Tag Wins, Even Though it's Impossible to Win Tag

Tag (2018)

Tag was a blast of a film. With a silly premise based on real events, it was a quick comedy with an excellent cast and plenty of heart. The key to the movie was the casting. Each lead character was likeable and charismatic and blended with the others. The characters were relatively shallow, following into archetypal categories, but they each served a critical role to the narrative and the development of the story. Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, and Ed Helms very believably play a group of friends grasping at the last breaths of childhood. They were funny together, emotional together, and had the perfect amount of playful insulting for a group of friends. Jeremy Renner was not part of the core of this movie, but he still stole every scene he was in. When he was avoiding the tag, the movie transitioned from comedy to action, with great cinematography and a clever voiceover. Those were some of my favorite scenes because they would seem out of place, but were perfectly inserted. The movie flew by and even included some tender moments. I found myself laughing consistently and it was a fantastic escape from the garbage weather outside. Overall, Tag was a fun romp through inner childhood and I give it 20 out of 24 Tag Amendments (real thing).
