Hotel Artemis (2018)

Hotel Artemis was a fun movie that will have a great existence on TNT on Saturday afternoon for the next 15 years. It was relatively short, with concise scenes and clear plot divisions that converge at the end. It felt like it was written to have scene breaks every 9 or 10 minutes so that it can have commercials later. That didn’t make it feel disjointed, largely because it had fairly basic characters and plot, but it was something I noticed. While the characters were cookie-cutter, they all fit and interacted meaningfully. Every named character has their own moment and was well cast. The standout was definitely Dave Bautista, who has been delightful in every one of his movies since the third Scorpion King. Bautista brought the heart of Drax, minus the literal nature, and he was the star in all of his scenes, even with actors like Sterling K. Brown and Jodie Foster on screen. He was by far my favorite part. Sorry for the basic review, but it was a basic movie. I give Hotel Artemis 6 out of 10 awkward Jodie Foster walking scenes.
