Deadpool 2 Kills It ... and a lot of henchmen

Deadpool 2 is a big, funny movie that is going to make millions of dollars because it is the type of entertainment that is so hot right now. Deadpool 2 takes the fourth wall breaking reference based humor from Deadpool and turns it up to eleven, and I can't decide if that is good or bad. The movie itself is relatively shallow, with a storyline that is ripped right out of Terminator 2. It is a much more ambitious film, introducing many more characters, but I prefer the more intimate and personal story of a lovable loser fighting for love and revenge in the original. While Deadpool 2 did not have the best story, the rapid fire humor and well-choreographed action are enough to carry the derivative plot for a mostly fast 2 hour runtime. The jokes don't always land, and if you are unfamiliar with pop culture, then most will be lost on you. There were a couple of scenes that were supposed to be funny, but the theater was relatively silent. The rest of the movie was filled with consistent laughter and plenty of great new characters, including some good cameos (stay for the mid-credits scene, but there is no post credits scene). Domino and Cable were great additions to the universe. Brolin was great, even though he didn't reach his level of excellence as Thanos, but I blame that on the writing. He was believably gritty and, just like in the comics, provided excellent balance with Deadpool's insanity. Zazie Beetz was great as Domino. She was equal parts cool, snarky, and badass, and I would do terrible things for luck as a superpower. Her scenes were some of the best in the movie. While Deadpool introduced more than a few new characters, it did very little for existing characters. T.J. Miller, the blind old lady, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead all were forced to the backseat, but Dopinder and Colossus were given some development, especially Colossus. While I did actually enjoy Deadpool 2, it did have some problems. I give Deadpool 2 Domino's lucky number 7 out of 11.

Disclaimer: This movie is not appropriate for children. There is an awful lot of gore, violence, and cussing. Fortunately, nobody brought toddlers to the showing like when I saw Deadpool for the first time in theaters.
