Blockers (2018)

I saw Blockers today with my mom. It was only a little uncomfortable. Overall, it was pretty funny and had a nice little story. It was very basic and the characters showed no growth until the last 10 minutes, but that is expected from a pre-summer comedy. I had trouble relating to all of the main characters because I was never a high school girl and I am not a parent to a daughter, but that didn't stop them from being funny. Ike Barinholtz was the best part of the movie. Of the parents, he was closest to how I would be if I had kids. He was sarcastic, but open-minded for the most part and consistently swore. John Cena was also great as an overbearing and protective father. He has found his groove as a comedy actor and should never go back to action movies. Leslie Mann was the most annoying parent because she is the type of parent that bothers me as a teacher. She is constantly there, meddling in her daughter's affairs, living vicariously through her daughter and not giving her the freedom she has earned. I was very impressed with the acting of the three daughters. I truly believed that they were long-time friends, which helped carry their interactions and story. My favorite part of the movie is how it nailed the disconnect between parents and children, regardless of how close they are. The movie was surprisingly progressive and consistently funny. I give Blockers 2 out of 3 meddling parents.
