Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)

I saw Pacific Rim: Uprising today and it was certainly an action movie. It was a perfect case for how modern movie trailers can ruin movies. If I had not seen any of the trailers, I would have thoroughly enjoyed Pacific Rim: Uprising. The two most important aspects of the final battle were given away in the trailer, removing that "Oh shit!" moment. My mother enjoyed it more than I did because she doesn't pay attention during movie trailers, so she completely missed the important scenes. It was similar to how Batman v. Superman revealed Doomsday in the trailer. I would have enjoyed that movie much more if I was surprised by Doomsday jumping onto the screen to fight Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman. Although, even if the trailers didn't reveal the climax, Pacific Rim: Uprising was a shell of its predecessor. John Boyega's Jake Pentecost was good, but not nearly as good as Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost. Every other character seems weaker than in the previous film as well. The plot, for what it was, was fine, but will never be the type of story to pass on to future generations. It even set up for a sequel that will never happen, similar to Independence Day: Resurgence. It seems like I am really down on this movie, but it was fine. I give it 1 out of 2 Jaeger pilots.
