Red Sparrow Surprises

Red Sparrow (2018)

I saw Red Sparrow tonight and really enjoyed it. It was a decent spy movie with enough twists to move the story along. It had sufficient and necessary violence and more than sufficient nudity that wasn’t totally necessary, but was welcome. I was glad that it wasn’t in Russian with subtitles, but I wish the accents were a little better. Most of the Russian characters sounded like they were Russian by way of England, speaking the Queen’s Russian, I suppose. Besides the gratuitous nudity, I did have fun watching the growth and cunning of Jennifer Lawrence’s character. It was a fairly well explored arc, starting with a world class ballerina and ending with [spoiler redacted]. I give Red Sparrow 5 out of 8 implied Putin references.

PS - If even 5% of this movie is comparable to how Russia actually works, then I am 100% sure that the Trump pee-pee tape exists.
