The Post (2017)

Tonight I saw The Post, and I am going to be honest, I expected more. It wasn't bad, but in terms of dramatization of a real journalism conflict, it was a shadow of Spotlight. It seemed overacted and reminded me of the scene from Teen Titans Go that I posted below. There were really only two types of characters in the entire movie; elite business people and politicians who acted like their pinkies were permanently out and upper middle class reporters who acted like they were grizzled. To me, and I recognize that I am in the minority, it seemed like the cast and director didn't respect the audience to understand the important message about freedom of the press, and they decided that they had to be the reason that it is important. In my opinion, the comedic actors were better than the "traditional" Oscar bait actors. I don't think that this deserves any Oscars recognition because it tried too hard. The acting was fine, but not as good as Battle of the Sexes and The Disaster Artist. The production was simple, with basic set pieces and the cinematography was misused. There was the potential for several beautiful tracking shots, but they always were stopped after a few seconds and mere yards. I honestly think that the same story could be told for a fraction of the money and nothing would be lost. Overall, I was disappointed and only give The Post 6 out of 10.
